Frequently Asked Questions
When did IBM i 7.4 support end?
IBM i 7.4 left standard support on September 30, 2026. IBM sells a paid Service Extension that runs to September 30, 2029. It is priced by quote, on top of your base software maintenance.
Does AIX have an end of support date?
Not at the release level for AIX 7.2 or 7.3. The dates that matter are technology level dates. AIX 7.3 TL2 stops getting fixes on November 30, 2026. TL4 runs to December 31, 2028. AIX 7.1's paid extension ends April 30, 2027.
Can a Power8 server run IBM i 7.5?
No. IBM i 7.5 needs Power9 or later, and IBM i 7.6 needs Power10 or Power11. A Power8 shop on IBM i 7.4 cannot fix the deadline with a software upgrade.
How much does the IBM Service Extension cost?
IBM does not publish a price. It publishes the formula for IBM i: year 1 adds 1.5 times your base software maintenance, year 2 adds 2 times, and year 3 adds 2.5 times. The actual figure comes from a quote.
