This page has three parts: independent profiles of named IBM Power providers, a side-by-side comparison of the five most commonly shortlisted, and the service categories you are likely to evaluate. Nothing here is a ranking or an endorsement, and the list is not exhaustive. Several capable IBM Power providers are not profiled yet. Three Questions That Narrow the Field Fast
Most IBM Power provider shortlists are built from whoever answered the phone first. These three questions eliminate more options in an afternoon than a month of demos will.

Thrive and Recovery Point do not sell production IBM i hosting. They protect a system that runs somewhere else. If your ask is get me off my own hardware entirely, that rules both out immediately, whatever else they do well.

Is IBM i your whole estate, or one corner of it?
If it is your whole estate, buy from a specialist. If it is one workload beside Windows, VMware, and public cloud, a broader provider covering everything on one contract may be worth more than IBM i depth. Both are defensible; picking without deciding is not.

Which release and how big is your largest partition?
Published IBM i support varies from 7.1 to 7.6 across these providers, and one caps IBM i partitions at four vCPUs regardless of hardware. Two facts about your own environment eliminate options faster than any feature comparison.

The Five Most Commonly Shortlisted, Compared
These five come up most often in IBM Power hosting and recovery evaluations, and they are not really competing for the same job. Read the first column before anything else: two of the five do not sell production hosting at all, and one does not run the Power platform itself. Facts as published in August 2026.

Market Context
This Market Consolidated Hard Between 2024 and 2026
Almost every provider on this page changed hands, changed leadership, or changed platform strategy in the last two years, and in several cases the change is not mentioned on the provider's own IBM Power page. None of this is disqualifying. All of it belongs in your due diligence, because a three-year hosting contract will likely outlast at least one of these transitions.
Lightedge acquired Connectria, April 2024
Roughly 1,000 IBM i partitions moved with the deal, and it is the source of most of Lightedge's IBM i book. Two years on, connectria.com still runs as a separate brand, so a buyer comparing quotes from both is comparing two quotes from one company.
Kyndryl acquired Skytap, May 2024
Skytap on Azure became Kyndryl Cloud Uplift. Kyndryl then withdrew IBM Power from Cloud Uplift on IBM Cloud and from its US-West region in August 2025, and retired the IBM Cloud offering entirely in March 2026. Cloud Uplift for Power is Azure-only now.
Park Place acquired CSI, parent of Tectrade, May 2025
Tectrade is one of the two partners TierPoint names for IBM Power delivery. Its ownership moved without any change to TierPoint's published material.
Performive acquired CloudFirst from Data Storage Corporation, September 2025
CloudFirst is TierPoint's other named IBM Power partner, and is separately profiled here. The buyer is backed by Renovus Capital Partners. Around 40 million dollars gross, with the brand and leadership said to remain intact.
Argo took majority control of TierPoint, December 2025
Argo Infrastructure Partners bought out most minority shareholders. Argo itself was acquired by Apollo Global Management, announced January 2025. TierPoint announced a search for its next chief executive in March 2026.
Berkshire Partners and Court Square invested in Thrive, January 2025
M/C Partners fully exited. It is Thrive's third change of control in nine years, alongside a run rate of four to five acquisitions a year and a stated goal of one billion dollars in revenue by 2029.
Lightedge began reselling IBM Power Virtual Server, May 2026
Not an ownership change, but the most consequential competitive move of the period. It joined Fresche Solutions, Meridian IT, and CloudFirst as independents that now sell IBM's own platform alongside their private clouds.
How to Choose
Running an IBM Power Provider Selection
A sequence that produces a defensible decision rather than a pile of proposals. Steps two and three are where most shortlists get cut in half.

Write down the two numbers first
How long can the business be down, and how much data can it afford to lose. Everything else follows from those. Providers will happily design around whatever you do not specify, and you will find out what they assumed during your first real outage.

Rule out on hard constraints, not on brochures
Your IBM i release, your largest partition size, whether you need Linux on Power, and any compliance framework you have to inherit. Each of those eliminates providers outright. Doing this first turns a list of twelve into a list of three.

Find out who actually holds the skills
Ask whether the company's own engineers run IBM i, or whether a partner does. Ask how many hold current certifications and where they sit. A large data center footprint and a deep IBM i bench are unrelated things, and several providers here have one without the other.

Get the platform named in writing
The specific building for production, the specific building for DR, the POWER generation, and the IBM i release ceiling that generation implies. Most providers publish none of this. All of them will tell you if you ask, and the answer belongs in the contract.

Price the whole thing, including the parts sold separately
Licensing, managed services, DR test days, out-of-hours support tiers, network, and exit. Several offerings here look inexpensive because the operating system support, the recovery testing, or the weekend coverage is a separate line item.

Ask what happens when they get sold
Four of the five providers profiled here are private-equity owned or have changed control recently. Change-of-control provisions, price protection, and data portability terms are cheap to negotiate before you sign and impossible afterward.

Which IBM Power provider is the best?
There is no single answer, and any directory that gives you one is selling something. The choice is driven by constraints rather than by quality: your IBM i release, the size of your largest partition, whether you need Linux on Power, which compliance frameworks you have to satisfy, whether you need production hosting or only recovery, and whether IBM i is your whole estate or one workload inside a larger one. Providers that are wrong for one shop are the obvious answer for another.
Do I need a specialist, or will a general managed services provider do?
It depends on where IBM i sits in your estate. If your world is one to three partitions and nothing else, a specialist gives you deeper engineering, published platform detail, and better small-partition economics. If IBM i is one workload beside a Windows, VMware, and public cloud estate, a broader provider that covers all of it on one contract is often worth more than IBM i depth. Be honest about which describes you before you shortlist.
How do I tell whether a provider actually runs IBM Power itself?
Look for a partner section on the IBM Power page, and ask who is on the contract. TierPoint, for example, names CloudFirst and Tectrade as its IBM Power delivery partners on its own page. That is not a problem in itself, but it means the IBM i expertise sits a layer removed from your agreement, and it means your service can be affected by a change in a relationship you are not party to.
Why do so few providers publish which of their data centers run Power?
Because Power capacity is usually concentrated in a handful of sites while the marketing footprint counts every building. A provider with 40 data centers may run IBM Power in fewer than ten. This matters for two reasons: the distance between your production and recovery sites, and the audit scope of any compliance report, which attaches to named facilities rather than to the company. Always get both buildings named.
Should I be worried that so many of these companies keep changing owners?
It is a reason to negotiate rather than to walk away. Private equity ownership is the norm in this market, and consolidation has been steady since 2024. What you can do about it is practical: negotiate change-of-control provisions, price protection on renewal, defined exit assistance, and data portability terms before you sign. Ask how long your named engineers have been with the company, and ask for a reference customer of similar size who has been through an ownership change with them.
Is IBM Power Virtual Server a substitute for these providers?
Increasingly it is both a substitute and a supply line. IBM's own platform has grown steadily and publishes the largest per-partition ceilings, and several independents including Lightedge, Fresche Solutions, Meridian IT, and CloudFirst now resell and manage it alongside their own clouds. If you want a managed relationship but PowerVS is the better platform for your workload, you can now often have both from one provider. Ask for a priced comparison of the same workload on each.
