Our process
How It Works
A structured, independent process for deciding what happens next with your IBM i, IBM Power, or AIX environment.
Independent advisory — not a reseller of hardware or hosting.
How does the Power Systems Advisor process work?
Power Systems Advisor works in four stages: we document your current IBM i, IBM Power, or AIX environment, compare viable destinations — on-prem refresh, PowerVS, managed hosting, private cloud, or modernization — against your requirements, pressure-test the cost and migration risk of the shortlisted options, and then help you connect with the right providers or implementation partners to execute the path you choose.
The process
Four steps from current state to a validated plan
Each step narrows the decision before you commit budget or migration effort to it.
- 1
Document the environment
Describe workloads, LPARs, dependencies, and your current operating model, so every recommendation that follows is grounded in your actual environment.
- 2
Compare viable destinations
Evaluate on-prem refresh, PowerVS, managed hosting, private cloud, and modernization paths against your requirements, not against a single preferred outcome.
- 3
Validate cost and migration risk
Pressure-test cost estimates and migration complexity for the shortlisted options before you commit budget or timeline to any of them.
- 4
Source providers and implementation options
Connect with the right providers or implementation partners for the path you choose, based on fit for your environment.
Questions about the process
How long does an assessment take?
It depends on the size and complexity of your environment. Most assessments are scoped into a small number of working sessions rather than an open-ended engagement, and the specific timeline is confirmed with you before work begins.
Is there a cost for the assessment?
Scope and cost depend on your environment and what you need from the engagement. You'll see clear terms before anything is billed, and requesting an assessment does not commit you to anything further.
Do you sell hardware or hosting directly?
No. Power Systems Advisor is an independent advisory resource, not a reseller, hardware vendor, or hosting provider. Recommendations are based on your requirements, not on a product line we need to move.
Will you tell me if my current setup is already the right choice?
Yes. If staying with your current environment or provider is the best fit for your requirements, that is what we'll recommend.
Ready to map out your options?
Start with an assessment of your current environment and get a clear view of what's viable before you decide anything.
